It’s that time, we’re at the cusp of an inflection point of a transformative event! And, you are likely swimming in a PLETHORA OF PROGNOSTICATIONS about the trends, opportunities and risks ahead. So many shiny objects to chase, so many urgent issues and escalating cultural memes to navigate.

While I am a professional futurist, and have my own ideas about emerging innovation waves, my wish today is to share a few ideas on HOW to think about the year and decade ahead, with the ability to perceive new realities and the courage to move toward your future visions. Because, the only future that matters is the one that is relevant to you, a bespoke investigation and set of scenarios that connect your present with your future.

HERE ARE THREE EASY AND FUN STEPS!

1) Begin collecting CURIOUS CLUES about the future. Take a moment to venture on treasure hunt of seemingly unconnected ideas. You will likely gravitate to the familiar at first, but keep exploring in uncharted areas. Then, use your pattern recognition to develop themes.

2) Identify what is important to you and your community, professional or otherwise. Which values will shine a light on the path to follow? What are the DESIGN PRINCIPLES that will guide your decisions and ventures? What is the nexus of fact and intuition. What seems to tap your authentic roots? What do you love. What do you CRAVE?

3) Think ahead about the ALTERNATIVE SCENARIOS that are likely evolve over the next decade. Some of these may be pessimistic and uncertain, some may feel optimistic and conceivable. Road test clues, themes and design principles with your scenarios and see what evolves. Apply your imagination.

I am fueled by the perspective of multiple ocean walks, mountain hikes, mindfulness meditation, deep reading, reflection, holiday love and general human cheer. I am humbled by the knowledge of what is fair and unfair in the world. I am provoke by our impending dangers from ridiculous consumption and negligent disposal. I am inspired by massive innovation that is remedial, proactive and genuinely human. I wish more for the future of humanity than the future of technology. But, realize those two theme are intertwined.

I am ready for what is coming next, for the mindful future we can create together.
