Peace of Toast

Considering the possibilities

Might it be possible that toast will become the great unifier in our now divided country? Yes, I think it will be. Perhaps, most certainly I must admit. True, the diversity of toast might be a problem for some people, dealing with the angst of whole wheat, rye, sourdough or even spelt instead of wonder white. True, what people add to toast such as the great debate between butter and yogurt, or preserves vs. jelly can still be divisive.

But, even the most woke avocado, driving a political wedge with it’s green-ness when placed upon toast can be rendered downright harmlessly American when placed in a bowl with chips in front of a TV instead of that progressive-minded whole wheat toast with olive oil, sprouts and Himalayan sea salts.

Amidst all the context setting we may rediscover unity, harmony and the better moments of bygone America that had more to do with kitchen table talk, sassy diner wait-staff and weekend mornings where the taste of toast became unilaterally peaceful. Oh, how we crave those moments of common bonds and platforms that did not inherently evoke hate.
